When you welcome a critical spirit into your heart, it closes you off from others and Father himself.
It creates an attitude where you will avoid seeking Godly wisdom and counsel.
The spirit of criticism will grow deeper roots.
Overcoming a critical spirit is vital for anyone following Christ .
When we examine the middle chapters of Hosea (Chapters 4-10) — we can get a pretty negative view of God as he lays out the future of Isreal.

Name O.T. Ref. Ps 23 John Romans 8
1. Jehovah-jireh
The Lord who provides — God has provided spiritual life in Christ Jesus, completely undeserved, and thus made us free from sin and death and condemnation.
13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Psalm 23:2 (NLT)
2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
Rom. 8:1,2
2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
2. Jehovah-rapha
The Lord who heals — We are completely whole spiritually and also He quickens our mortal bodies on account of the spirit.
26 He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”
Psalm 23:3 (NLT)
3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
3. Jehovah-nissi
The Lord our canopy — God is our complete protection and has fought the battle and we are victors in Christ (Col.1:13). He makes us more that conquerors now and to help the spirit makes perfect intercession.
13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son,
15 Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-nissi (which means “the Lord is my banner”).
Psalm 23:4 (NLT)
4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
7 so he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
4. Jehovah-shalom
The Lord our peace — There are no more barriers between us and God our Father (Eph 2:18), but true peace, because He justified us. (See also Rom.5:1-2). To be spiritually minded then is peace.
1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
Judges 6:24
Judges 6.24
24 And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it Yahweh-Shalom (which means “the Lord is peace”). The altar remains in Ophrah in the land of the clan of Abiezer to this day.
Psalm 23:2 (NLT)
2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.
Rom. 8:6,30
30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.
5. Jehovah-tsidkenu
The Lord our righteousness — We walk in the paths of righteousness, identified with Christ death and resurrection, and so have resurrection life now and eternally.
Jeremiah 23:6 (NLT)
6 And this will be his name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’ In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety.
Ps. 23.3
Psalm 23:3 (NLT)
3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.
33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
6. Jehovah-shammah
The Lord is present — When we speak in tongues we have the proof that we are in the presence of God and have his strength, his blessing as his children (See also Eph 3:16).
16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.
35 “The distance around the entire city will be 6 miles. And from that day the name of the city will be ‘The Lord Is There.’”
Psalm 23:5–6 (NLT)
5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
1 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.
15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
7. Jehovah-raah
The Lord our shepherd — The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the spirit (Rom. 5:5); nothing can separate us from it.
Psalm 23:1 (NLT)
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
Psalm 23:1 (NLT)
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.
Romans 8:35–37 (NLT)
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
HOOK & PRAYER
Isreal knew this God of their Fathers and turned their backs and hearts from Jehovah--
LET’S NOT fall into this same pattern
“having tasted of His goodness” to turn a deaf ear to his Heart and His ways.
